Itinerary of Langtang Valley Trek

Kathmandu to Syabrubesi

I was accompanied by my mom on this trek. Our journey started with a bumpy bus ride to Sybrubesi. You can get a bus ticket from Machhapokhari Bus Park. As we did not book the ticket in advance, the bus we traveled on was almost full so we couldn’t get comfortable seats. We met a lot of other trekkers on the same bus who were heading towards the Gosaikunda trek. By the time we reached Syabrubesi, we were exhausted and after a short rest, we explored Sybrubesi City in the evening. We stayed at a friendly lodge that hosted us with delicious Nepali staple food dal, bhat, and chicken curry for dinner.

Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel

Early morning after a good rest, we’re ready to hit the road. Initially, the road was a bit dusty. After walking for almost an hour we had to cross the bridge and pass through a lush for

est. The walk to lama hotel was quite steady as there was no steep uphill so the walk was smooth. We passed through beautiful rhododendrons and bamboo trees. Like every other trek,  dal bhat is the regular meal of a trekker. The majority of the population in Langtang region is the Tamang people. They offer local cuisines like Tibetan stew and veg noodle soup with an aromatic mountain spice called Sichuan pepper.

Lama Hotel to Kyanjin Gompa

We passed through the beautiful landscape of Thanshyap Village followed by Langtang Village. Langtang Village was highly affected by the 2015 earthquake where the whole village was wiped out by a landslide. While passing through the area you feel a tinge of bitterness as many people lost their lives there during the 2015 earthquake. Prayer flags and stupa are the highlight of the beautiful village, Kyanjin Gompa. Kyangin Gompa is at an elevation of 3870 meters.

Tsergo Ri

I had no plans to ascend Tsergo Ri. But many fellow travelers on the way said that the trek would be incomplete without ascending beautiful Tsergo Ri. So leaving Mom at Kyanji village I opted to ascend Tsergo Ri along with other fellow trekkers. The elevation of Tsergo Ri is approximately 4984 meters. I had never gone that high elevation and I was not well prepared for it. We started our climb up in the dark at around 5 am, I was doing quite well at the beginning but after crossing almost 4500m I felt altitude sickness and unfortunately had to return back.

Conclusion

Every travel experience teaches you lessons. Trekking to the Langtang region taught me to be well prepared for high altitude with warm clothes and stay hydrated. I was out of water and energy that is the reason, I had to descend back because I had symptoms of high altitude sickness. The Langtang Valley offers a trekking experience that is both reviving and breathtaking because of its unspoiled landscapes and kind locals. As I left the valley, I carried with me not only memories of stunning vistas and warm smiles but also a profound sense of gratitude for having had the opportunity to travel to this pristine corner of the world.
