I had a number of places in my mind among which I made a plan to trek to Gosaikunda. With the help of my friend who had recently completed the Gosaikunda trek, I made an itinerary accordingly. So, on the 11th of November, we started our trek to the Sacred Heights of Gosaikinda from Kathmandu.

Highlights of Gosaikunda Trek

Travelers looking for natural beauty and spiritual comfort are drawn to Nepal because of its magnificent Himalayas. The renowned Gosaikunda Lake, a sacred place and spectacular natural wonder that draws hikers from all over the world is one of its many riches.

Since it is the peak trekking season, we wanted to avoid crowds as much as possible so we decided to trek from the less crowded trail from Gyangphedi Village of Nuwakot. It takes around 6 to 7 hours to drive from the main bus park to reach Gyangphedi Village. The small village of Gyangphedi is where our journey starts, and the excitement and thrill of the next hike permeates the air. Gyangphedi village mainly comprises of Tamang community.

Captivating Phulchowki Hike

Sisipu is our first stop for the night. If you have the time it is good to stroll around the village and interact with the locals there. The Tamang community there follows the Buddhist religion and Lhosar is celebrated as one of the major festivals. Mostly you can find elderly people in the village as most youth migrate to cities and abroad for better job and education opportunities.

Though Sisipu is just 7 hour’s drive from Kathmandu I felt there are many such villages in Nepal that need to be explored. The locals are very kind and helpful. As we came across one of the locals he shared his daily lifestyle of village life and about his children struggling in neighbouring country India for the job as they had no proper education. Many rural parts of Nepal still need to focus on education which ultimately helps in employment and lifestyle of people.

The next day as we headed our journey from Sisipu, we came across a beautiful Sherpa village called Talu. There is something very rustic about the small lanes that wind through farms and small homes decorated with colorful prayer flags. We passed through rolling hills and lush forests. The people there greeted us with smiles and open arms. They offer the best dal bhat simple yet very authentic.

The scenery drastically shifts as we ascend, offering us a breathtaking view of the Langtang mountain. Though, The walking becomes slower as we climb the higher elevation each step is rewarding as you get to glance at the breathtaking sight of Suryakunda. Situated approximately 4610 meters above sea level, this quiet lake captivates us with its serene beauty.

We stop here to think, taking in the heavenly spiritual energy and the unspoiled tranquility of Suryakunda. Though the trek from Suryakunda to Gosaikunda is steep, the views at every turn are unmatched. A silence falls over us as we go closer to the holy lake, highlighting its sacredness. Gosaikunda’s blue waters sparkle in the sunlight as they are encircled by snow-capped hills and rugged terrain.

Spiritual Wellness

The journey from Gosaikunda to Dhunche is mostly downhill. The rough landscape eventually gives way to lush forests, and the journey down becomes meditative as we reflect on the memories and experiences we have made along the way.

Our incredible journey comes to an end as we arrive in Dhunche. The memories of our spiritual journey to Gosaikunda remain with us, making a lasting impression on our hearts, even as we wish the mountains farewell.
